Elation Community Voices Children's Workshop - 22nd August 2013

This event was devised and run by four members of Elation Community Voices and took place at Long Buckby library. It was intended for children between the ages of four and eleven, but the average age of those who attended was six years, so the programme had to be rapidly re-thought on the day.
There were twelve participants (plus various parents and grandparents) and they all appeared to enjoy the activities on offer. There was lots of singing and instrumental work, both pitched and non-pitched percussion and some basic recorder techniques. There was also work on rhythms and the children very quickly discovered that they could follow rhythm patterns.
The session was divided into two halves with drinks and biscuits for the children at half-time. One little boy had declared at the beginning of the afternoon that he did not wish to take part but, by the time the second half came around, he was the most enthusiastic participant. The final session culminated in a ‘jazz’ version of ‘Three Blind Mice’ which was sung in two part harmony and accompanied by percussion. Everyone appeared to have enjoyed the afternoon and we are already planning a similar event for next year, when we hope to have even more children attending.
