- Who can join our choir?
Anyone can join us. All you need is a love of singing.
- Are you a church choir?
No - we hire a room at the Baptist Church for our rehearsals, but we are not run by, or affiliated with, the church.
- Can both men and women join?
Yes, we are a mixed choir and sing in 3 parts - baritone, alto and soprano.
- Can I try out the choir before I decide to join?
Yes, in fact your first night at the choir is exactly that. It lets you get a feel for the music, enjoy the atmosphere and get to know some of the other Elation Community Voices family before you decide if you want to join permanently.
- Do I have to audition?
No, all you need to do is come along and find out if it's your thing. You have no obligation to come back again and become a member but we find that most people enjoy themselves and choose to keep returning.
- Do I need any experience?
No, none at all. Not even if you haven’t sung since childhood.
- Do I have to be able to read music?
No, our songs are taught by ear. Sheet music is avaliable for many of them and you may find it an advantage if you can follow along, but it's not essential.
- What kind of music do you sing?
We sing a wide variety of songs ranging from traditional folk songs to musicals and pop.
- Do I need to know what kind of voice I have?
No, we sing in 3-part harmony and you can try different parts until you find a pitch that suits your voice best.
- Does the choir perform to the public?
Yes, we normally perform around 3 times as year- Spring, Summer and Christmas and local events such as Buckby feast.
- How many are there in the choir?
We have around 40 regular members with more dropping in now and again.
- How much does Elation Community Voices Choir cost?
Members pay £36 per term, £18 for a half term or £108 annually. There is a slightly reduced rate for two people from the same household. We also sell the music to all members at a subsidised price. There is a hardship fund available to support choir members.
- What do I do if I need support with costs?
If membership fees present a barrier to attending the choir or any of its activities, please contact us. We are keen to support anyone who wants to join the choir and to cover or help with costs (see below for a document listing some of the criteria for support).
